Let me share my experience with Globe Fiber Prepaid, which I've been using for about 2-3 months now.
Previously, I was subscribed to Globe’s Plan 1699, which gave me around 200-250 Mbps and came with a landline. It worked well, but it made me think twice in keeping the service when I stayed in the province for a few months. No one was using the internet at my condo in Manila, and I felt bad about paying for something that wasn’t being utilized. As far as I know, Globe doesn’t have a “freeze” option for their plans, so you keep paying even if you’re not using the service.
I discovered Globe Fiber Prepaid through my sister-in-law, who uses it at her home. When I got back to Manila, I decided to give it a try. Applying was surprisingly easy—I just used the Globe One App, and the process was straightforward. The very next day, they installed it at my place. The installation fee was ₱1,000, and it came with a free one-week trial service.
Currently, I’m subscribed to the ₱699 plan, which offers 50 Mbps. Interestingly, my average speed is about 70 Mbps, so thank you to Globe for exceeding expectations!
As someone who lives alone and works from home, I rely heavily on my internet connection. I use a PC, several work phones, a tablet, a TV, and a few IP cameras. I also edit and upload videos occasionally, and I often have audio or video conferences. Here’s how Globe Fiber Prepaid has performed for me so far:
Pros:
Browsing and Streaming: For general browsing and watching videos on Netflix, YouTube, or Amazon Prime, the connection has been very stable and smooth.
Flexibility: Since it’s prepaid, I only load the plan when I need it. This is perfect for someone like me who occasionally spends months in the province. When I’m not in Manila, I don’t have to worry about paying for unused services.
Cons:
Voice and Video Calls: During Messenger or Viber calls, or online meetings, the signal occasionally drops. I noticed this through the signal indicator on the apps I use, and people on the other end sometimes complain that they can’t hear me or that my audio gets choppy.
Video Uploads: When uploading videos to YouTube, the progress bar sometimes gets stuck. This can be confusing because it makes you think the upload hasn’t completed. However, if you refresh the page or open another tab, you’ll see the video has been successfully uploaded. This didn’t happen with my previous plan.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Globe Fiber Prepaid has been a good fit for me. It’s a practical and cost-effective option, especially for people like me who live alone and don’t need a 24/7 connection. While there’s room for improvement—like better stability for voice and video calls—it’s a solid option for its price.
I also appreciate how much more affordable internet services have become compared to before. Hopefully, Globe continues to improve by increasing speeds and lowering prices even further.
For now, I’m happy with Globe Fiber Prepaid. It fits my needs, and the flexibility it offers is a game-changer.
