They Made Me Read Subtitles for 2 Hours... And I Don't Regret It ('Alpha' Movie Review)

Hey! So I just watched this movie "Alpha" on Netflix and I NEED to tell you about it!

Okay, so first things first - heads up that you'll need to read subtitles because they're speaking this super ancient language called Solutrean (I literally had to Google what that was 😅). But don't let that scare you away because this movie is totally worth it!

So the story follows this guy Keda, who's basically trying to prove to his dad (who's the tribe chief) that he's not a kid anymore. You know, typical father-son stuff, except they're living 20,000 years ago! The whole tribe's survival depends on hunting, and they go after these MASSIVE bison. Like, why not start with something smaller, right? 😂

Things get real when Keda gets separated from his tribe during a hunt. Everyone thinks he's dead (spoiler: he's not!), and this is where it gets interesting - he meets this wolf! At first, they're enemies (duh), but then they end up becoming besties and help each other survive. As a dog parent, I was literally on the edge of my seat hoping nothing would happen to the wolf (who Keda names Alpha).

Can we talk about how GORGEOUS this movie is? The landscapes are insane! Though I'm pretty sure some of it is CGI, but whatever, it still looks amazing. And get this - there's this scene where they're tracking animals by... wait for it... touching and smelling their poop! 🤢 The things you gotta do to survive, I guess!

Honestly, some parts are a bit too convenient - like how Keda survives all these crazy situations. But you know what? I was so invested in his friendship with Alpha that I didn't even care. There's this really cool scene where his dad talks about how wolf packs work, with the alpha being responsible for everyone, and it just hits different when you see how their relationship develops.

The ending? OMG! It shows everyone in the tribe walking with their own wolves, and it just made me wonder if this is actually how we ended up with dogs as pets! How wild is that?

Fair warning - some of the acting (especially from Keda's parents) could've been better, but it's not a deal-breaker. And yeah, you do need to pay attention because of the subtitles, but trust me, you get used to it pretty quick.

You'd love this if:

- You're a dog person (seriously, you'll get ALL the feels)

- You're into survival stories

- You don't mind reading subtitles

- You're curious about how humans lived waaaay back when

I really wish they'd make a sequel because I'm dying to know what happens next with Keda and Alpha!

Let me know if you end up watching it - I'm literally dying to talk about it with someone! And if you have a dog, give them extra pets while watching. You'll understand why! 🐺
